5- GM Short   -  GM Maghami   1/2 62 B90 Sicilian Najdorf with 6.Be2 e5

6- GM Maghami -  GM Short      1/2 16 D35 QGD Exchange

GM Nigel Short of England beat Iran`s GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami 4:2 in their 6-game `Fajr Decade`s Anniversary Match` in Teheran. Short won games 2 and 4 and drew the other four games. The match was organized by Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh of the Iranian Chess Federation and conducted by Chief Arbiter Mahdi Abdul Rahim of the UAE. Download PGN games.
Game 6: The last game was a QGD exchange without any tactical problem that ended in draw after 16 moves.
Game 5: the game was again a Sicilian Najdorf but today 6.Be2 e5 and Short played one of his novelties and the Black king remained in the center. Ehsan lost one pawn, but after that played very well and could give very good resistance. Finally he changed his Bishop with the last opponent`s pawn and the game became a draw . After this game the result is 3.5-1.5 for Short.
Game 4: Maghami tried a sharp line of the Reti opening but Short masterfully avoided any unnecessary complications by some early piece exchanges. On move 14, Maghami played a combination which Short had seen earlier and apparently was well prepared for, and in
turn he responded with a combination of his own. This led to an endgame with an extra pawn for Black. But from a seemingly drawn position, finally Black won with one pawn more.
Game 3: Again a Sicilian. This time Short tried 6.a4 and the game moved on to the Dragon Variation. On the 11th move Maghami sacrificed a pawn, and later on, on the 17th move he exchanged Bishop and Knight for a Rook and pawn. White offered a draw on move 23 and in a drawn position, and Black accepted.
Game 2 - Short takes lead
GM Nigel Short of England leads Iran`s GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami 2:1 in their 6-game `Fajr Decade`s Anniversary Match`. In the decisive game 2, Ghaem Maghami essayed the English opening against his English opponent but created weaknesses with his aggressive moves and lost in time trouble. The first and third games were drawn.
Game 1 a Draw
The first game of the `Fajr Decade`s Anniversary Match` ended in a draw. GM Nigel Short of England played White and the game followed the f4 variation in the Sicilian Najdorf. On the 33rd move Nigel offered the draw and Ehsan accepted despite having a slight advantage since he was in time trouble.
Short-Ghaem Maghami Match Slated
GM Nigel Short of England shall play the `Fajr Decade`s Anniversary Match` against the rising young Iranian star GM Ghaem Maghami starting today, 12 February until the 17th in Teheran.
